I believe this behaviour is due to the way the animation time is calculated.

It's not incremental (t += dt * timeMultiplier) which would be continuous when the
multipler changes, but absolute (t = (Tlast - Tfirst) * timeMultiplier) which will jump
when you change the multiplier.
