I think the best path would be to release 2.2 soon, which in addition  
to your other arguments, would cut on necessary support time since  
more people would have direct access to the bug and regression fixes  
between 2.0 and 2.2. Anyways, the first release after a major release  
is normally to smooth some rough edges, so I don't think it's a  
problem that there isn't any major new functionality.

Release early, release often - get the up to date sources into the  
hands of users who don't necessarily want to live on the SVN bleeding  
edge.

But I agree, geometry shaders and other extensions will be really cool  
once they land into the codebase... And if it's in 2.4 then you can  
say that all that was done in just a few months and everyone will be  
really impressed! :-)

My 0.02$ CAN. (almost on par with US at the moment...)
